Secretary: Jay Clevenger (he/him/his)

Jay Clevenger is a political science student at MiraCosta College who has served as Secretary and Chair of the Bylaws Review Committee since April 2024. A sixth-generation Californian and advocate for clean energy, affordable housing, and LGBTQ+ rights, Jay represented California’s 49th Congressional District as a District Delegate pledged to Kamala Harris at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Born and raised in Murrieta, California, Jay spent much of his childhood playing the piano, writing short stories, and studying foreign languages. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his family relocated to Central California, where he graduated from Atascadero High School in June 2022. After graduation, Jay studied Mandarin Chinese at National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, through the U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), becoming fluent in the language. It was during his time abroad, riding on the high-speed rail through Taipei, that Jay developed a love for big cities, public transit, and urban planning.

After returning from Taiwan, Jay briefly attended Cuesta College before moving to San Diego County, where he enrolled at MiraCosta College to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Political Science. He currently interns for the Office of San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn (District 3), having previously interned for the district office of U.S. Representative Scott Peters (CA-50). His experiences interning for both local and national offices have strengthened his commitment to public service, and Jay looks forward to a lifelong career focused on pragmatic, sustainable solutions for California’s infrastructure, energy, and housing needs.

Jay lives in San Diego, California. When he's not doing homework or skimming through POLITICO Playbook, you can find him tearing up the dance floor, canvassing for candidates and causes he’s passionate about, or working on a dystopian novel he plans to publish in the near future.
